CBT Photo Contest: Show Us Your Basin - Official Contest Rules


  1. (a) Contest period starts on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 8:00 am PDT and continues until 4:30 PT on October 1, 2009, the (Contest Closing Date). CBT is looking for photos that represent the theme, “Show Us Your Basin.” Photos in this theme include people (e.g. family, children, youth, seniors, fashion, holidays), nature (e.g. environment, scenic, landscape, water, wildlife, flora/fauna, weather), seasons (winter, spring, summer, fall), arts, culture & heritage (e.g. landmarks, architecture, events, celebrations, artisans), activity (e.g. sports, vacation, event, gardening), industry (e.g. forestry, hydropower, manufacturing, trades, business) and any and all photos relating to the theme, not explicitly mentioned above are acceptable.

    To enter, complete an entry form online at www.cbt.org/photocontest and submit it with your photo according to the entry form instructions and specifications.

    • Images must be in JPG format.
    • Images must be a minimum resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch) or 1200 x 1800 pixels or approximately 2 megapixels.
    • Images must not have been previously published.
    • Images must be submitted by the photographer. No third party submissions.
    • Entries by mail will NOT BE ACCEPTED.
    • No purchase necessary.
    • Images must be uploaded before 4:30 PDT on October 1, 2009.

    (b) In October 2009, CBT’s Photo Selection Committee will select ten (10) entrants from all eligible entries received as of the Contest Closing Date to be the finalists. Each of the ten Finalist photos will participate in CBT’s online voting procedure which includes displaying the photos in an online gallery on www.cbt.org/photocontest and encouraging Basin residents to vote for the overall winner. The Grand, Runner up and Honourable Mention Prize winners will be chosen based on number of online votes received. Vote counts and selection of finalists are final and without appeal in all matters related to the Contest and the awarding of the Prizes.

  2. (a) Participants are eligible to win one (1) of five (5) prizes. All five prizes have an intrinsic value of being used for CBT publications, promotional material, and used on CBT’s website. Grand Prize Winner is eligible to win one (1) non-monetary Grand Prize valued at $500. Runner-Up Winner is eligible to win one (1) non-monetary prize valued at $250. Honourable Mention Winners are eligible to win one (1) of three (3) CBT fleece jackets valued at $50.

    (b) By entering this Contest, entrants release and hold harmless CBT and assign CBT from any liability in connection with this Contest or, if declared a winner, the prize.

  3. All photos submitted must be no more than twelve (12) months old.
  4. No professional photography will be accepted. Professional photography is any entrant who made $2,500 or more by selling photos in the previous 12 months.
  5. By uploading a photograph to enter CBT's Photo Contest: Show Us Your Basin (the "Contest"), the entrant grants to CBT a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual licence to use the photograph or any portion of it in any format whether in print or online, and to copy, sell, distribute, exhibit, publish, edit, and present it at a public exhibition, and to grant others such rights. The entrant forever waives his or her moral rights over the photograph.
  6. Each entrant warrants to CBT that the submission does not contravene or infringe on anyone else's privacy, copyright or other intellectual property, is not false, inaccurate or misleading and does not violate any law or regulation; is not libellous, threatening or harassing; does not instigate others to commit illegal activities; does not contain pornography; and does not contain any viruses, worms, or other computer programming intended to or that could interfere with the ability of others to enjoy the Contest website.
  7. All prizes must be accepted as awarded. CBT reserves the right to substitute a prize of at least equal value in the event of the unavailability, for whatever reason, of the advertised prize.
  8. This Contest is open to residents of the Columbia Basin Trust region as defined in the Columbia Basin Trust Act. CBT employees and CBT’s Board of Directors and their respective immediate families (which includes spouse and children) are not eligible to receive a prize. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations. Void where prohibited.

  9. All entrants will be notified via email when the ten (10) Finalists have been selected. Entrants and all Basin residents will be able to vote for their favourite photo. Winners will be posted on CBT’s website after online voting closes November 20, 2009, at www.cbt.org/photocontest.
  10. Odds of being named a Finalist depend on the number of eligible entries received; odds of being voted the Grand Prize Winner are 1:10. All entries that are incomplete, illegible, damaged, irregular, have been submitted through illicit means, or do not conform to or satisfy any condition of the Contest Rules may be disqualified by CBT. CBT takes no responsibility for lost, stolen, delayed, damaged, misdirected, late or destroyed entries, or for typographical or other production errors. All entries and photographs become the property of the CBT.
  11. CBT is collecting personal data about entrants for the purpose of administering this Contest. No further informational or marketing communications will be received by entrants and personal data will not be shared with outside parties.
  12. This Contest will be run in accordance with these Contest Rules, subject to amendment by CBT. Contestants must comply with these Contest Rules, and will be deemed to have received and understood the Contest Rules by participating in the Contest. CBT reserves the right to withdraw, terminate or modify any portion of this Contest, or extend the deadline of this Contest, at any time without prior notice.
  13. CBT assumes no responsibility for failure of the Internet or the website during the Contest Period, for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, or any combination thereof including any injury or damage to an entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from playing or downloading any material in the Contest. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws. Should such an attempt be made, CBT reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law.
